5 Tips for a Safe 4th of July with your dog

1๏ธโƒฃ Create a Safe Space ๐ŸŒŸ Set up a quiet, cozy area for your pup to retreat to. Use familiar bedding, toys, and soothing sounds to help them feel secure amidst the fireworks. Use a white noise machine and/or box fan to drown out outside noise. โฃWhether it's their crate or their favorite spot, provide a safe haven. Enrichment activities can help keep them distracted

2๏ธโƒฃ Exercise Early๐Ÿ  Even if your dog usually loves being outside, keep them indoors during fireworks. Walk and exercise earlier in the day. This prevents them from getting scared and running away or getting injured.โฃ

3๏ธโƒฃ Update ID & Microchip ๐Ÿ“› Ensure your dogโ€™s ID tags and microchip information are up-to-date. In case they do escape, this will increase the chances of a safe return.โฃ Even the most well-trained pups can get startled by fireworks.

4๏ธโƒฃ Avoid Fireworks ๐ŸŽ‡ Fireworks can be frightening and dangerous for pets. Keep your dog away from areas where fireworks are being set off to avoid stress and potential injury.โฃ

5๏ธโƒฃ Stay Calm & Comforting ๐Ÿพ Your pup looks to you for cues. Stay calm, speak in soothing tones, and offer gentle petting to help reassure them that everything is okay. Consider using calming items like Adaptil plug-ins or collars, lavender spray, Thundershirt, and/or nutriceuticals such as our favorite Composure chews. If your pup requires pharmaceuticals, be sure to refill your prescription ahead of time! โฃ

Plan for the future: if your dog struggles with fireworks, seek help from a professional trainer and consult your vet about possible medication options. Start preparing now for less stress next year!
